Dues Explained

New Scouts, 2023-2024:

To participate in Cub Scouts, you will need a BSA National Membership.  When you first submit your BSA Application, you will be asked to pay $110 in fees to BSA along with a one-time fee for new members ($25). These fees come to approximately $140, which includes a 3.1% administrative fee charged by BSA. These fees covers your BSA membership for one full year. When you apply for a BSA membership, you will also have the option to purchase a subscription to Scout Life magazine ($15) for 2024.

In addition to BSA membership, you will also pay pack dues annually. Pack dues are determined by the pack committee each year by reviewing the annual program budget. For the 2023-24 program year, the pack dues for new scouts are $140.  These dues fund the following:

1)  Awards/Segments/Badges

2)  Class B T-shirts

3)  Pack Meeting Supplies and Speakers

4)  Pinewood Derby

6)  Blue and Gold Celebration

6)  Pack Campout in June

7)  Advancement picnic in June

8)  Administrative Costs (for instance recruiting fliers)

Returning Scouts, 2022-2023:

For the 2023-24 program year, the pack dues for returning scouts are $250. This amount includes both the $140 to support the pack program plus your BSA fees ($110).  Your BSA fees cover your BSA membership for 2024. According to BSA, this is the last year that the pack will be submitting your BSA membership fees. In the future, you will pay your BSA fees directly to BSA, and the pack will only collect funds directly related to running our program.

Example costs to expect when joining Cub Scouts:

$140 - Paid to BSA with your BSA application

$140 - Paid as pack dues directly to the pack

~$150 - Uniform and handbook purchased from BSA  (Uniforms can be worn for multiple years.)

Total for the year approximately:  $430

Some den activities will have additional costs associated, for instance a trip to the Flight Museum would mean scouts and parents paying for admission. Likewise, the BSA Camps (Camp Halloween, Winter Camp, Summer Resident Camp, etc.) all have (fairly reasonable) fees.
